I am a philosophy major. My interest in philosophy developed during my childhood. I began to question things about life and its surroundings. My thoughts and questions were always dismissed as silly, ignorant, and pointless. Nevertheless, I never let go of such questions, and as I grew older, I was able to further understand those questions. My parents are currently both Christian Evangelical Ministers, who have devoted over 30 years to both God and their sons. I have seen their hard work ethic and altruism. I have seen them donating food to hundreds of poor people in Argentina during a Christian mission. I have seen the smiles of children who were so happy that they got a meal to eat for Christmas. The experiences my parents have showed me did not shape my interest in philosophy directly, but it did expand my views on people and on life. I was raised in a Christian family and for much of my childhood I spent more time inside churches than inside my own home. As I grew, I distanced myself from religion and its religious practices and focused more on religions as a whole and their philosophical views within them. I am no longer a Christian today, but I believe I have more passion in religions now because I study and learn not just one, but all of them. Each religion has something of value, and I believe it is unfortunate for people not to see and learn a couple of things about each. Three characters that display intricate characteristics are Polonius, King Claudius, and Hamlet. Polonius is a confused man filled with nothingness. He is just a shell of a person who will agree with those who overpower him. His mind is disillusioned and distraught. Throughout the play, until he is killed, he believes that Hamlet is acting crazy because Hamlet loves Ophelia, Polonius' daughter. "This is the very ecstasy of love...As oft as any passion under heaven That does afflict our natures." It is these characteristics that lead him to his death. Following orders by the king, Polonius hides behind a curtain to spy on Hamlet. Unfortunately, Polonius spoke at the wrong time and is killed for spying. Polonius was just a pawn that meant nothing. "Thou wretched, rash, intruding fool, farewell!" King Claudius is a conniving man. He is the brother of the previous king, King Hamlet. However his stone cold mind frame soon melted to fright as he saw a reenactment of his action in a play put forth by Hamlet, the son of King Hamlet. "Give me some light. Away!" Leartes, the son of Polonius, whom was killed by Hamlet, comes to their land. Claudius relays the bad news and gets Leartes to vow vengeance. Through all of the scheming and treachery, The king's true face is shown and is killed. Hamlet is a clever and intelligent man; however, in every tragedy there must be a tragic hero, and Hamlet is the tragic hero. Confused about his father's mysterious death, Hamlet is trying to find some answers. Surprisingly, those answers came from a ghost. It was the Ghost of his father. Being a religious man, Hamlet was weary about the validity of the ghosts claims that Claudius killed Hamlet's father. Hamlet had a witty plan to put on a play depicting his father's death in front of King Claudius. With King Claudius reaction, Hamlet knew that his father was murdered, and began thinking of ways to avenge his father's death. Being slightly devious himself, Hamlet planned to catch Claudius in his own treacherous web. He could not just run him through at that time because of his religious beliefs. However, his part as the tragic hero kicked in and died soon after killing Claudius. "O, I die, Horatio! The potent poison quite o'er-crows my spirit." Overall, Hamlet was an ideal tragedy. What made it ideal was the characteristics of the characters and the way that they all became intertwined throughout the play. Hamlet was the strongest character, mentally and ethically. Although Hamlet did not come out on top, he completed his life's work and is in a better place.

If you think you'll need to highlight important points, it's probably a good idea! AP Psychology Study Strategies Learning all of this information might be tough if you don't have a game plan. Here are some tips for getting the most out of your time. Tip #1: Flashcards Are Your Friends To succeed in AP Psychology, you must have excellent recall of a large library of terms. Some of these are constants of human behavior that you didn’t know had official names, and others are more obscure terms for the biological components of psychological responses. It’s critical to be fluent in the terminology surrounding every concept if you want to end up with a high score. You should also know the names of prominent psychologists and understand their contributions to the field. Quizzing yourself with flashcards is the best way to ensure that you’re prepared. I’d recommend Quizlet as a starting point (after you read through the notes and refresh your memory) because it offers many sets of online flashcards that you can use for practice. Of course, you can always write out your own physical flashcards if you prefer to do things the old fashioned way! This may be more effective because writing down definitions helps to reinforce your memory. Tip #2: Relate Psych Concepts to Everyday Life The concepts in this course will show up in your daily life when you make decisions, interact socially, get stressed about schoolwork (very meta!), or really do anything. As you read the notes, try to think of personal examples that relate to what you’re learning. Besides helping you memorize the material, this can give you some interesting insight into why you’ve made certain decisions in your life (or why other people you know may have made certain decisions). Even outside of your active study time, if you notice a particular behavior, try to relate it to something you’ve learned. You probably won’t forget a term or concept if you anchor it to a real experience. Tip #3: Give Yourself Regular Checkups Don’t go over a section of notes once, quiz yourself, and then decide that you’re done with it forever. Every few topic areas, circle back and do a holistic review of everything you’ve learned so far. Make a point of constantly refreshing your memory so that nothing gets lost in the shuffle. With an aggressive treatment plan, you can hope to recover from your ignorance.
